What else do I need to know?

Yes you need to be an Electric Ireland customer, switch here.
You need to be the home owner or have permission from your landlord for Electric Ireland to install the Smarter Home kit.

Yes, you need an Apple or Android smartphone or tablet with iOS or Android operating system to access Electric Ireland's Smarter Home app. Windows phones are not suitable.

Yes, you need fixed line broadband - this is what most people have at home. It's a fast internet connection delivered by telephone wire (ADSL) or fibre optic cable, through service providers such as Sky, Virgin Media, Vodafone and Eir. If you use a mobile Wi-Fi dongle provided by Eir, 3 or other, this is not a fixed line broadband. It is necessary to leave your broadband connection on at all times for Smarter Home. 
 A port on your internet router is a specific place for connecting Electric Ireland's Smart Hub in order to transmit and receive Smarter Home data. Most routers have a few spare ports. A plug socket is required close to your router as the Smart Hub we will connect to the internet router will need to be powered. This will need to remain on at all times.

Smart Immersion Control can be added to either the Smarter Home Control or Smarter Home Comfort subscription. It allows you to switch your immersion on/off remotely and set timers using your Smarter Home app. It also allows you to monitor the energy consumption of your immersion. 

Smart Immersion Control has to be wall mounted beside the distribution board. Only homes with the immersion on a dedicated line are suitable for Immersion control installation, no pumps or heating controls can be strung off the immersion circuit. The installer will check this. 

Smart Immersion Control does not give remote Sink/Bath control. There is a physical override located on the front of the Control.

 

Payment of your Smarter Home subscription is by monthly direct debit only.

Smarter Home Control subscription is €3.99 a month. Smarter Home Comfort is €7.99 a month, which reduces to the Smarter Home Control subscription amount after 36 months. A Smart Immersion Control can be added to either the Smarter Home Control or Smarter Home Comfort subscription. It costs an additional €2.99 per month for 36 months.

The Smarter Home subscription is collected in a separate direct debit to your electricity bill. You can sign up even if you don't pay your electricity bill by direct debit.

 
The minimum sign up period is 36 months. To continue receiving your Smarter Home service you need to continue paying your monthly subscription. If you choose Smarter Home Comfort subscription or add on the Smart Immersion Control to your subscription, after 36 months your subscription reverts to the standard Smarter Home Control subscription amount as the additional cost of your Nest or Climote and/or Smart Immersion Control has been paid off.

Contract breakage fees will apply: 

You will have to pay a fee of your monthly subscription charges multiplied by the number of months left in Your Period of Agreement

 

Yes, it is necessary to leave your broadband connection and Hub on at all times for the Smarter Home service to provide you with accurate information in the Smarter Home app.
You can still get Smarter Home as the Hub is connected directly to your router by a cable and does not depend on Wi-Fi. The devices we install are also independent of Wi-Fi as they use a communication protocol called Z-Wave.
