Hybrid Inverters

If you are considering installing battery storage in the future, we recommend installing a Hybrid inverter allowing for a simple addition of solar battery. Our Solis Hybrid inverters also come with an enhanced customer mobile app that not only shows you live solar generation from your panels but also what your overall home is consuming.

Hot Water Diverter

Most customers install a Hot Water Diverter as part of their system. We install market-leading MyEnergi Eddi diverters which use excess electricity to heat water via the immersion heater for free. This is particularly valuable during brighter months of the year when the majority of water heating is free, so there is no need to turn on oil or a gas boiler to heat water.

Additional Solar Panels

We are now installing additional Solar panels in homes with existing Solar PV systems. As more customers move towards Electric Vehicles, the value of larger Solar systems makes sense where excess electricity is diverted directly into your Electric Vehicle.

Solar Batteries

When added to a Solar system, batteries can increase the savings from Solar by storing any excess electricity for use later in the day. During darker months of the year, batteries can be programmed to charge at a super low electricity rate by availing of the Home Electric+ Night Boost tariff. Electric Ireland offers a range of battery solutions from Dyness and Sonnen. Batteries are modular and are available in 5kWh to 15kWh sizes. Our Solar experts will advise you on battery suitability during your consultation. Batteries storage can also be added to existing Solar installations once Electric Ireland has installed the original system.

Solar PV Panels FAQs

1. What is Solar PV?

Solar PV, also called Photovoltaic, uses the sun's energy to convert daylight into renewable energy. The electricity is then consumed within the home, reducing your need to buy energy from a supplier. When a Solar PV system produces more energy than a home needs, the extra energy can go to your immersion heater. Solar PV is not to be confused with Solar Thermal - while Solar Thermal heats water only, Solar PV gives you free electricity and hot water. Watch our promotional video here for even more information.

2. What does an Electric Ireland Solar PV installation cost?

An average size Solar PV install would include 10 panels and a hot water diverter with average price of €7,975 (before grant) but is dependant on site survey for accurate quotation. The price after grant of €2,400 for this 10 panel (4.1kWp) system would be €5,575.

All installs with deposits paid since 1st May 2023, will benefit from 0% VAT and Electric Ireland are committed to maintaining pricing following this announcement.

Once installed, you can save an estimated €1,190 each year (based on 2,280kWh of solar electricity being self consumed and 1,220kWh being exported to grid). At current electricity price of 41c/kWh and microgen rate of 21c/kWh, your investment payback is an estimated 5 years.

3. What is included in the Solar PV offer?
  • High Quality Solar PV panels mounted securely and safely to your roof. Quantity and output of system will be discussed to suit your needs during consultation.
  • An inverter to convert electricity from DC to usable power (AC) for your home.
  • A hot water diverter to send excess electricity to heat you water for free using the Immersion.
  • Option to add battery storage to your Solar PV system to save excess solar electricity for times when there is no sun.
  • Submission of NC6 form to ESB Networks so you can avail of Microgeneration tariff of 21c p/kWh for any exported electricity.
  • All work carries 5 year workmanship warranty.
4. How much is the Solar PV grant & am I eligible?

All homeowners, including private landlords, whose homes were built and occupied before 2021 can apply. This is defined as the date your electricity meter was installed.

The grant value is calculated on the total maximum output of the Solar PV system, measured in kWp. The grant value is €900 per kWp up to 2 kWp and €300 for every additional kWp up to 4kWp. The total maximum grant value is capped at €2400.
